The College of Food Science and Technology at Nanchang University consists of Department of Food Science and Engineering, Department of Food Nutrition and Safety, and Department of Food Fermentation and Bioengineering. The school offer comprehensive undergraduate and graduate programs that prepare students in the both food science and engineering area with the goal of ensuring the security, sustainability, quality and tasty of China’s food supply.  There are currently 1,581 full-time students, including 131 PhD students, 505 master students, and 945 undergraduates. Our graduates work for schools, food and beverage companies, and government agencies all over the country.

The undergraduate programs include Food Science and Engineering, Food Quality and Safety, and Bioengineering. Among those, Food Science and Engineering major was approved as national characteristic specialty and provincial brand specialty and included in the first batch of "Excellence Plan" of the Ministry of Education.

The graduate program includes one post-doctoral mobile stations for food science and engineering, one doctoral degree authorization point for first-level disciplines in food science and engineering, including nine second-level disciplines, for example food nutrition and hygiene, one academic masters academic masters in first-level disciplines in first-level disciplines, including six second-level disciplines in academic degree and three second-level disciplines in professional degree. The school also has the right to grant on-the-job master's degrees for university teachers and the right to apply for master's degree grants with equivalent academic abilities. In the "2014 China University Graduate Education Evaluation Report", our school's food science and engineering discipline was rated as a "five-star discipline" and became the only "China's first-class graduate discipline" in Jiangxi Province in 2014. It has a good reputation, social influence, reputation and strong competitiveness in the whole province and even in the whole country.

All students are supported by a faculty consist of 114 full-time teachers, including 47 professors and 45 associate professors. The faculty is committed to conduct educations and researches in areas of Food Chemistry, Food Engineering, Food Microbiology, Food Safety, and Health & Nutrition, and Product Development.  Our Food Science and Engineering program ranked third nationwide in the fourth round of national subject evaluation. The contribution of the Food Science program help the Agricultural Science of Nanchang University ranked 41st internationally according to US News Best Global Universities and entered the top 1.89 ‰ in the ESI global ranking.
